Do you wash/rinse dishes before putting them in the dishwasher?

ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) — Today’s 98.3 TRY social dilemma comes from Paula and is about dishwashers. Here is his email:

Hi Jaime. This happened to us recently and we want you to use it for the dilemma. My husband and I recently made some new friends through work. They invited us to their home for dinner, which was very nice. When dinner was over, I got up to help clean up and started loading the dishwasher. I thought I was doing a good thing, until the woman looked at me and said, we never load the dishwasher without washing the dishes first. I excused myself and took them out and started rinsing the dishes. She was nice and said I didn’t have to, so I quit. She then started washing the dishes which I rinsed and then put them in the dishwasher. Am I missing something? Isn’t the dishwasher made for washing dishes? Wouldn’t rinsing be enough if you want to do something? Have you ever heard of this? Help me. Thanks a lot!

~ Paul

Well, I rinse the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher, but I wash them?!?! No. If I did that, I wouldn’t use the dishwasher at all.

What do you think? Do you wash the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher? Let’s help Paula and let me know on TRY’s Facebook page.
