Is it theft if you eat apples while you are picking them?

ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) – 98.3 TRY Carrie’s social dilemma is about eating apples while picking apples.

Hi Jaime. Here is a social dilemma for you. I went apple picking with my family and friends this past weekend. We had a great time together, but a friend of mine called me about something. Whenever we go to pick apples, we always take one or two from the tree and eat them while we are walking. We taste it and it helps us decide which apples to buy. However, my friend said it was theft. She said they weighed the apples, and the point is, I ate an apple or two that weren’t weighed and paid for. I’ve always thought farms assumed people would pick and eat along the way, so they factor that into the cost. So have I been flying all these years or do you think it’s okay? I don’t think this is a big deal. Thanks Jaime, I love listening everyday

I feel like I’m on both sides. I picked and ate apples like I went apple picking, but I always tell the person checking me that I did. Sometimes I even ask in advance if it’s okay. Most of the time they say it’s good and they expect it, but a few times they added half a pound to my weight to cover what I ate. I agree with that.

So what do you think? Is it stealing to pick and eat apples along the way, or is that just part of the story? Let me know on the TRY Facebook page.
